Not in our house.
"Helping" mom bake cookies:
Although maybe it should have been me fixing the sink and Jared baking the cookies? Oh no. Maybe the damage is already done.
Speaking of damage, our friends Margy and Oliver gave Cyra an utterly destructive present on Sunday: a box of Barbi cereal. It was so wrong on so many levels. (It was the epitome of the non-food substances that Michael Pollan talks about in In Defense of Food). Not only was it trash with fortified "nutrients," it was obnoxiously pink and had little cereal things in the shape of mirrors, hair dryers, etc. And there was a too skinny, too-blonde (no offense to blondes at all, but I just prefer that Cyra doesn't fall into the trap of wishing she were white and blonde like so many young girls including myself do/did) Barbi. Margy and Oliver clearly knew what they were doing. And it was hilarious. Jared took a black marker and colored in Barbi's hair so she could be a brunette and they both ate a bowl of it and now the box is safely hidden--only to be opened on special occasions, such as when Cyra completes her PhD in physics. OK. Too much social commentary for a blog post. Thanks again Margy and Oliver.

ha ha ha! I'm so glad I got to see the box in person. And I LOVE the social commentary. You get that PhD Cyra.
I think that we are usually ok about roles, but Kate informed my friend that she was doing a daddy job the other day. What is that? :) As for the cereal, I'm sorry. We have been against barbies until Kate played with them for over 4 hours quietly at my mom's. My mom then sent her a barbie in the mail. I cringed and then just remembered that I have more influence than this little doll. I have more of a hang-up right now with the princess thing. I hate it. Good luck. Isn't it great being a mom of girls? :)
barbi cereal?! i have never heard of such a obnoxious thing - i kind of want you to post the "fixed" box!
Oh wow, I love it! Especially after the book club discussion last week....
Haha... You need to post Jared's talent show bit to do this post justice. We went to the store right after the show and couldn't resist. There was even a box with barbie and a dark haired friend, but we decided to go for the more obnoxious, strictly blond one. We know your daughters will overcome this obstacle :) Glad they enjoyed it!
Now that's hilarious! I thought you wanted to be a red head with freckles. You are such a Lindsay Lohan wannabe!
